"You've reached the comms device of Megaman.EXE. I'm not available at the moment, so please leave a message and I will respond as soon as I am able! Thank you!"
There are memory discrepancies that are bothering me.
I do not care what your opinion of me is, but you can at least blame it on things I remember doing. I have no recollection of events as you describe and this is aggravating me.
You can make other arrangements. Place, time. Draw up a contract if you must. I know you do not trust me. But I would rather get this sorted out sooner rather than later. I do not enjoy the feeling of having forgotten something that I may not have even done.
What makes you think I don't? [Seriously Magicman, it's the one computer system in this world that is purely and totally under his control. Anything else would just be gilding the lily.]
I should be available at six tonight. Same for tomorrow. Free all weekend.
[ Megaman will receive a ping on his communicator before Magicman shows up in it. Still the same as ever; his appearance hasn't changed at all. Not that navis change much anyway. ]
Well?
[ He doesn't feel threatened at all, or even slightly concerned that he's basically stepping into a situation that he has no control over. Just for this, he doesn't mind. ]
[Megaman's immediate response is to simply plug in as well. He isn't as outwardly frightened as he was the first time they spoke, but he's not nearly as seemingly calm as he thinks he is; he keeps his distance, clearly about seventeen kinds of tense, and if Magicman looks closely enough he'll see his hands shaking, just a little.
They might be in Megaman's turf, so to speak, but there's no telling what Magicman could decide to pull if he loses focus for even a second. Gotta stay on guard.]
[Megaman stares quietly at the screen for a moment. He doesn't want to do this. He doesn't like letting anyone into his head, not even his friends. It's overwhelming, frightening, makes him feel exposed and vulnerable.
It's harder to keep some things hidden, when someone's got a connection into his mind like that.
He doesn't want to do this.
"Transfer request accepted. Standing by for uplink."]
[ He's much less hesitant; it was why he suggested it, after all. He's no stranger to being peered at and dissected, but it's different with someone who's never heard of or witnessed anything like that.
He's good at compartmentalising and controlling. He can't control the emotions linked to the memory, of course, but he controls what memories go through.
The first impression Megaman will have of Magicman's mind is that it's seemingly empty; he's cleared mental space in preparation, some kind of meditative state.
The first memory is probably more comical than Megaman was expecting.
"Well, I didn't know you liked pretending to be animals so much, everyone!
How about being animals for real?"
There are flares of something like amusement, watching humans scramble around; when Megaman shows up, there's a spike of anticipation and curiosity. When they fight, he seems to be enjoying it.
When he's forced to retreat, he's more annoyed than in pain.
(Though the emotions are clear, and it's obvious Magicman isn't hiding anything, the way they're processed is obviously abnormal. They're duller than the emotions Megaman himself feels, less vivid, as if there's some kind of barrier there.) ]
Hopefully Magicman can see Megaman's expression right now, because it is just the most hilarious mixture of indignation - messing with humans like that is not funny! - and utter bafflement. This is so very not what he's used to seeing World Three navis do, comedy levels aside. Not wantonly destructive and potentially fatal enough. Also, what the everloving heck even is he seeing.
(The weirdly muted emotions woven throughout are odd too, but only just. Different from what he's used to feeling, yes, but it's easy for Megaman to just assume the issue is with him and not Magicman. Just another item in the list of weirdness that apparently comes from having his source code derived from human DNA. Or from having a human soul; he's never been entirely sure where that line is, exactly.)
It dies out a bit when the fight starts - for that he's just tense. Megaman knows exactly how this is supposed to go for him. He even visibly flinches at the last hit Magicman gets on him, and he spends the rest of the memory trembling, waiting for the "inevitable" outcome and dreading every second of it.
And then it...just doesn't happen, and he's confused all over again.
[He frowns at that amusement. Nothing about this is funny, dammit, stop not-laughing at him. Also please get your emotions out of his head it's kind of incredibly creepy. This is just further cementing his dislike of anything deeper than basic data swaps.
And now he has to explain his reaction to something he's not entirely sure how to react to. This evening is going so well for him.]
Not that. [...yes, good, stunning display of eloquence right there. Try again.] I mean...it's just... [USE SYLLABLES IN SENTENCES, MEGAMAN.] I was expecting something...deadlier. On all counts.
[Would using the memory share link make this infinitely easier? Yes, yes it would. But Megaman is very resolutely Not Thinking About It right now. Feeling Magicman's emotions in his head is uncomfortable enough; he really does not want to consider the opposite happening, to say nothing of actually letting Magicman in enough to see any memories.]
That explanation is sufficient. It must have been traumatising.
[ He can read between the lines well enough; he shuts that amusement off, as simply as flipping a switch. It's easy for him, something born of long practice. ]
Our memories are not the same. That much is evident.
[ He lets small fragments filter through; Colorman talking eagerly about playing with traffic lights - no mention of exploding buses there - Elecman complaining about a theft gone wrong;
'We almost got away with it, you know.'
Fireman worrying about his operator brooding about his loss. There is a muted emotion there, too; fondness this time. ]
["It must have been traumatizing." He just glares at that; true as it is, it's not something he wants Magicman of all people saying. It's not something he wants anyone else saying either, because that is not a conversation he ever wants to have again with anyone outside his family, but still. He can't help but find it patronizing coming from him.
He just gets twitchier with each little fragment - even if they aren't exact, they're close enough to what he knows to get under his skin, so to speak. The last one finally gets Megaman riled up enough to lose his focus, and a thin thread of seething anger seeps into the link. (It's directed more at Hinoken then Fireman, really, but anger doesn't always limit itself to rational targets.)]

As if you would take me at my word.

We use my comm. I don't care when.
no subject
I would have thought you wanted complete control over the situation.
When are you not busy?

I should be available at six tonight. Same for tomorrow. Free all weekend.

Tonight, then? Or at your convenience. I'll let you choose the time slot if you wish, but I want to get this over with as soon as possible.

Same here. Tonight's fine by me.

As you wish.
AND SO, LATER
Well?

Let's get this over with.

He reads the situation clearly; brave, but still scared, still shaky. He doesn't push.
He inclines his head to the side for a moment, silent, watching him; then he simply nods.
The book on his back chimes once, twice, before a screen appears in front of Megaman. It remains blank for now, a purple-tinted, transparent surface.
"Data available. Please authorise transfer." ]

Congradulations, Magicman, you've officially broken Megaman's brain.]

He radiates that same kind of muted amusement that the memory shows, letting it pass through the link. ]

Is there a point to this?
no subject
Oh, anger? Something must have happened there, too. But he shows no sign of having noticed it. ]
You have your own family. I have mine.
You're not the only one capable of forming bonds. [ He sounds faintly - annoyed, perhaps. A little broody, maybe.
He misses his teammates and his operator very much. Though that's not clearly evident, but he allows himself some small display of emotion. ]
